Accommodation
 
All the international students studying Undergraduate / Post Graduate courses are normally guaranteed accommodation for the first year in University / College halls of residence. The charges would vary from 60 pounds per week to 130 pounds per week, depending on the University / College in the UK . The Universities / Colleges have their own deadlines for accommodation booking which students must meet if they require the accommodation to be arranged by them.

Fresh Talent Scheme ( Scotland )
 
The Scottish Executive and Home Office have agreed a new scheme called the Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland scheme. The Scheme will apply to people who have been living in Scotland and studying at a Scottish college or university.

Those eligible to apply for permission to stay will be those who have graduated with a Higher National Diploma from a Scottish Further Education College or a first degree, Master's degree or Ph.D. from a Scottish Higher Education Institution. It will not include students graduating with a Higher National Certificate or postgraduate diploma, recipients of honorary degrees, or people who lived outside Scotland while studying.

International Graduate Scheme
 
The International Graduates Scheme (IGS) is a way for non-European Economic Area students of higher education institutes within the United Kingdom to remain in the country for one year after graduation and gain valuable work experience. Less restrictive than earlier student immigration routes, the International Graduates Scheme allows a student of any discipline to apply for one year work permit after completing Bachelors or Masters Degree from a UK institute.
Who can qualify?
 
For a student to successfully come under the International Graduates Scheme, they must :
 
  • have completed a relevant course at a recognized institute of higher learning within the UK such as a bachelor's degree, Master's degree, PhD, or postgraduate certificate or diploma, including those who have completed a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education).
  • have completed the course within the last twelve months. This is calculated from the date of expiry of leave as a Student to complete the course.
  • intend to work during the period of one year granted by the scheme.
  • be able to support and accommodate themselves and any dependents without resorting to the use of public funds.
  • intend to leave the UK after the period of one year unless they transfer to another scheme as a highly skilled migrant, business owner, student, or innovator.
  • get permission before applying for IGS if their studies were sponsored by a government or international scholarship agency.
 
Recognised and Listed Institutions
 
The government of the United Kingdom recognises institutions who grant degrees by virtue of their own power, called 'recognised' bodies, or those institutions who grant degrees under the power of another institution, called 'listed' bodies.

Students get a warm welcome
 
The UK has been welcoming international students for generations. Many institutions arrange for you to be collected from the airport and offer guaranteed accommodation for your first year. Mr. Tony Blair, British Prime Minister, is himself behind a new initiative bring planned to brin2g in 50,000 additional international students (that is, students from non- European Union 2countries) over the next few years. And the good news is that Britain is also planning to make available more scholarships for one-year master's courses as soon as it is able to put together additional funds, correspondents who recently toured some British universities were told.

Aiming to expand bilateral ties, Britain plans to increase student intake from India by over 40 percent to 20,000 in the short term. A PTI report quoted British high commissioner Michael Arthur as saying on Monday, "Every year 14,000 new Indian Students go to study in the UK and our aim in the short term is to raise that figure to 20, 000 each year" Britain issued over2, 50,000 visas to Indians every year of the multiple entry variety.
